Xell AG has developed a medium without animal components, specifically designed for first steps in the development of cell lines. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has supported the project from 2012 to 2015 with with nearly euros 370,000 from the funding initiative "KMU-innovativ: Biotechnologie" ("SME innovative: biotechnology").

The Swiss company AlveoliX has launched a lung-on-a chip array in multiwell plate format. The chip consists of 12 individual lung-on-a-chips.
 

The meeting will give scientists an opportunity to present their research involving organoids, to share their experience with the methods and to form new collaborations.

The Institute for In Vitro Sciences (IIVS) from Gaithersburg, USA, is a non-profit organization, founded in 1997. The institute offers in vitro test services, validation studies as well as education in the field of animal-free research. It marked its 20th year with the opening of a new state-of-the-art in vitro respiratory exposure laboratory.

The well known British foundation for the promotion of replacement methods to animal testing, Dr. Hadwen Trust, has a new look, a new name and a new website. Now the foundation it is called Animal Free Research UK.

Researchers from the Institute for Molecular Biotechnology (IMBA) in Vienna havecontinuously refined their brain organoids by using a polymer backbone on which the brain cells can grow. By this way, the simulated "minibrain" becomes more similar to a real human brain in its morphology.

In order to conduct a survey, the Griffith College is asking participants who have extensive experiences in the field of 3R methods. With the aim of evaluating the strategies and the level of adaptation to the 3R principles in the EU, participants from science, industry, 3R committees and animal welfare bodies are welcome to participate in the short survey.

A primary human lung alveolus-on-a-chip model was been introduced by the Wyss Institute of Biologically inspired Engineering of the Harvard University. It has been made-up by microfluidic lung alveolus-on-a-chip lined by human primary alveolar epithelium interfaced with endothelium cells. The cells were cultured under flowing whole blood.

The Danish Forsøgsdyrenes Værn and Alternativfondet announce financial support for research into and development of alternatives to animal experiments.
