The database PACT F (Preclinical And Clinical Trials Knowledge Base on Bioavailability) contains more than 5,000 scientific publications on animal experiments and human clinical studies on the bioavailability of drugs.
With the database, it is now possible to analyze the factors that affect the oral bioavailability of drugs. Each of the 8,296 database entries contains the chemical structure of the substance being examined and up to 17 dditional fields which describe experimental conditions in the detail (gender, age, health status and number of subjects, genetic differences, investigated species, method ofapplication, use of additional drugs, method of measurement, formulation and further study descriptions).
Using the knowledge database computer models can be generated which predict the oral bioavailability of new drugs in humans. This increases the prospects of success of new drug developments and leads to increased safety in human clinical trials.
