Berlin: Panel Discussion at Urania Featured

Under the motto “Research for the future - getting closer to Humankind”, “Bündnis Tierschutzpolitik Berlin”, an alliance of the animal welfare organisations “Tierschutzverein für Berlin and Umgebung Corp. e.V.” and “Bundesverband Tierschutz e.V.” will stage the third panel discussion at Urania Berlin on 26 April 2014.

This years’ panel participants include Prof. Dr. phil. nat. Monika Schäfer-Korting, First Vice President of Freie Universität Berlin and Professor for Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Department of Biology, Chemistry and Pharmacy of Freie Universität Berlin. The title of her lecture is “New Graduate School: Berlin/Potsdam – a pioneer in university education”.

A further participant is Dr. Andreas Hocke, head of the Department of Internal Medicine with emphasis on Infectiology and Respiratory Diseases of the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and recipient of the first Berlin Animal Protection Research Award 2012. His presentation is titled “Development of a human lung tissue infection model”.

Dr. Uwe Marx from the Institute of Biotechnology at the TU Berlin and Founder of the company TissUse will give a presentation with the title “Human multi-organ chip to replace animal use”. Further scientists and prominent guests will be also present to answer questions.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Ines Krüger, television journalist and president of the animal welfare organization “Tierschutzverein für Berlin”.
