Validation of NAMs: OECD calls for funding from member countries Featured

The OECD Working Group of the National Coordinator for the Test Guidelines Programme (WNT), supported by the OECD's Chemicals and Biotechnology Committee, is calling for the urgent mobilization of national and regional resources to demonstrate the reproducibility and reliability of new animal welfare-free methods, called NAMs (New Approach Methodologies).

To take advantage of the most current scientific knowledge, a statement said, it is essential that funding institutions in member countries prioritize the assessment and validation of new scientific knowledge.

And there is something to be lifted: Costs vary widely depending on the method, but a "rough estimate" could be €500,000 for a battery of 10-15 in vitro tests using 7-10 chemicals, according to a communication to Chemical Watch.
