Baden-Württemberg: 3R Center for Tübingen Featured

In order to investigate alternative methods to animal experiments in medical research, the state Baden-Württenberg supports the establishment of a scientific 3R center. From 2020, The Ministry of Science, Research and Art supports the University of Tübingen with a W3 professorship and finances the establishment of a center for alternatives to animal experiments with 130,000 euros per year for an initial period of five years.

Since there is a growing number of valid and promising scientific approaches with which animal experiments can be replaced without harming the quality of the research, the Baden-Württemberg Research Ministry will support the approaches and develop their permanent establishment in Baden-Württemberg's research landscape, as said that in a press release.

In Tübingen, a "3R center for in vitro models and alternative animal experiments" will be established, in which alternative methods to animal experiments are developed, used for biomedical research, and offered throughout Baden-Württemberg. The 3R Centre should be a state-wide cross-sectional center that will enable basic researchers from universities to gain low-threshold access to innovative in vitro models.
