Cologne: Herbert Stiller Prize II for in silico researcher Featured

Dr. Wolfgang Boomgaarden, founder and owner of the Emden-based company PharmaInformatic, has been awarded the Herbert Stiller Prize by the association Doctors Against Animal Experiments.

The researcher develops simulation programs that can be used to accurately predict the bioavailability of toxins and drugs in the human body. Bioavailability is the proportion of a substance administered outside the blood or lymphatic vessels that in fact reaches the systemic circulation of the body and thus the site of action in the tissue.

With the Herbert Stiller Award, Doctors Against Animal Experiments aims to promote innovative scientific work in the field of non-animal, human-based research that can make a significant contribution to medical progress. In 2021 two projects were honored with this prize: Besides Dr. Wolfgang Boomgaarden, the prize was also given to Dr. Klara Janjić and her team from the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna for the development of a 3D oral mucosa model.

The prize is worth 20,000 euros and will be awarded on November 29. The award ceremony for Dr. Boomgaarden will be streamed live on YouTube via Zoom: https://youtu.be/iex9LVJnDWA
