Herbert Stiller Research Prize awarded Featured

Prof. Dr. Jens Kurreck and Dr. Johanna Berg from the Technical University of Berlin, as well as Dr. Mario Rothbauer from the Vienna University of Technology have received the this year's Herbert Stiller Award for animal-free research. The prize was presented by the Animal Welfare Organization Doctors Against Animal Experiments.


Prof. Kurreck and Dr. Berg were honoured for their efforts to optimize the modern 3D-bioprinting process in such a way that it gets along completely without animal components.
Dr. Rothbauer works at the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry headed by Prof. Peter Ertl. He received the award for a human-based cell culture model of the human synovium, including synovial fluid, which he uses for an investigation of the rheumatoid arthritis.

The prize is endowed with 20,000 Euros and was awarded on 14 September in Frankfurt am Main.
