Brussels: IHI Supports Moving Away from the Use of a Second Animal Species in Drug Safety Studies Featured

The Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) has announced its 13th call for proposals. It aims to support innovators in the healthcare sector in reducing the use of animals in drug safety studies and combating diseases related to aging and the immune system.


The Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) is a public-private partnership between the European Union and the European life sciences industry. The 13th call for proposals will be officially published in July 2026 and is already being highlighted on the IHI website today to give potential applicants additional time to find or form a consortium and prepare a convincing application.

The following topics will be included in IHI Call 13:
1.    A network to promote the next wave of European innovations in healthcare
2.    An AI-based toxicological reference model and framework to support the elimination of a second animal species in drug safety studies
3.    Unraveling the immunology of age-related immune-mediated diseases
