Innovative Health Initiative 13: EU Call for Proposals on AI-Supported Toxicology Starting Soon Featured

In summer the EU will launch a call for proposals as part of its Innovation Health Initiative (IHI) funding program, under which European consortia comprising academia, industry, and public authorities can apply for funding to develop an AI-based model and framework to support the elimination of a second animal species in drug trials.

The official call is expected in Summer 2026. The EU hopes this will provide additional time to find and establish a consortium and to develop a compelling proposal. All interested parties are encouraged to begin contacting potential partners before then. The IHI website currently features a draft of the call for proposals, which is subject to change as the topics are still under development and must be coordinated with the States’ Representatives Group (SRG) and the Science and Innovation Panel (SIP).

Eligible applicants are legal entities based in all countries associated with “Horizon Europe,” including Canada, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and South Korea.

Information on the topic as well as the rules and procedures for two-stage calls for proposals will be presented during two webinars on June 30, 2026.
