With the Animal Welfare Research Award for Outstanding Achievement, national and international scientists may be honored who, through their innovations, have had a significant impact on the replacement or reduction of animal testing, or who have developed methods that promote animal welfare, thereby contributing significantly to reducing animal suffering before, during, and after an experiment.
Eligible to nominate candidates are national 3R centers, the directors or heads of national research institutions in the fields of life and natural sciences, as well as German animal welfare organizations that have defined the protection of laboratory animals as a key focus of their work.
The award winners receive prize money of up to 100,000 euros.
In contrast, early-career researchers may apply for the second prize - Young Researchers’ Award - themselves, however, they need the support of their institute’s leadership. This prize category is endowed with up to €50,000.
