Vienna: Renowned State Award goes to Organ-on-a-Chip Researcher Featured

Microbiologist Prof. Dr. Außerlechner from the Medical University of Innsbruck has received the State Prize for the Promotion of Alternative Methods to Animal Testing 2022 from the State of Austria. He receives the prize for his development of a 3D-printed brain tumor model as an alternative to animal testing.


The organ-on-a-chip model consists of patient cells and is used to study cell death mechanisms in childhood cancers and the effect of drugs.

The State Prize is awarded annually in recognition of outstanding scientific work in the field of alternative methods to animal experiments. The prize is endowed with 10,000 euros.
