Hamburg: In vitro researcher to hold 3Rs chair Featured

Biomedical scientist Prof. Maike Frye takes over the chair on 3R methods at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). With her Vascular Biology group, the scientist is developing novel hydrogel techniques for culture systems of human cells. The aim is to recreate tissue environments of vascular endothelial cells.

As stated in a UKE press release, the new professorship is intended to provide an impetus for further developing alternative methods to animal experiments, for example, cell culture methods (in vitro methods), computer simulations, imaging methods, and organoids. According to her own statements, the researcher wants to bring the different research fields closer together.
