Reutlingen: Tumor Interaction-on-a-Chip Featured

The Natural and Medical Sciences Institute at the University of Tübingen (NMI), based in Reutlingen, is working with academic and industrial partners to develop a test system on a chip that simulates the interaction between tumor and immune system.

To develop immunotherapeutics against cancer, researchers are developing a human-specific multi-organ-on-a-chip system with human tissue and immune cells to study the interaction of tumor and immune system.  The tumor tissue is derived from patient tissue and is further developed into microtumors. The direct environment of the tumor is also replicated on the chip. The new organ-on-a-chip test system effectively combines a lymph node model and a tumor model.
