Using bioinformatics for Covid-19 clarification Featured

Prof. James Adjaye, head of the Institute for Stem Cell Research and Regenerative Medicine in Düsseldorf, and the bioinformatician Wasco Wruck have carried out a meta-analysis of RNA sequence data from three Sars-Cov2 studies, in which human lung epithelial cells had been used.

Searching for genes, that were linked to the angiotensin I converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) they found several genes highly significantly correlating, like the transmembrane serine protease 4 (TMPRSS4) as well as, among others, those that have to do with the viral life cycle and evoke the interferon response to the virus. The data set obtained can contribute to a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying COVID-19.
