With this decision they confirmed the fact that the marketing ban applies even if the animal experiments outside Europe were carried out.
The case had been brought before the Court by the European Federation for Cosmetics Ingredients (EFCI), an organization that represents the majority of European cosmetic manufacturers. The opposing view was represented by Cruelty Free International (CFI), together with the European Coalition to End Animal Experiments (ECEAE), a consortium of European animal rights and animal welfare organizations.
In addition to the arguments of the EFCI, the court also refused the arguments of the British government and the European Commission, who intended to soften the sales ban on cosmetics tested on animals, said CFI in a recent press release.
