Symrise Joins EPAA Featured

Symrise, a company that deals with flavourings and olfactory substances, has recently joined the European Partnership for Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing (EPAA). By doing so, it has undertaken to uphold EPAA's standards concerning 3R product testing.

Symrise develops new products for the market. Consequently it has a strong focus on safety in the use of flavourings and olfactory substances in foodstuffs. EPAA members exchange their experience and knowledge under the umbrella of the EPAA Commission and in the context of three further EPAA platforms. These three platforms are responsible for developing 3R methods in production processes. 3R methods are concerned with reducing, refining and replacing animal testing and this is mirrored in EPAA's action plan.  Symrise is especially involved with the work of EPAA's scientific panel and the use of 3R principles in the regulatory field.

Symrise has a great deal of expertise in this field. The company's analysis techniques are progressive and make use of alternative test procedures. These include, among others, the Ceetox test methods for skin sensitivity and the Gentronix Green / Blue Screen Analyses. In addition, Symrise and Cutech have together developed the Cutech Model for skin sensitivity. Symrise and Cutech registered an European patent for this innovative ex-vivo real skin model last year.
