ZEBET database: Animal-free Methods in in Acute Lung Failure Featured

Two new documents portraying animal-free alternative methods in acute lung injury and acute respiratory distress research are currently available in the AnimAlt-ZEBET data base of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR). The techniques which are now present in the data base use primary human cells or whole tissues, respectively, and thus are also preferable in regard to translational aspects.

Portrays comprise a biomimetic, “breathing” lung-on-a-chip and an ex vivo perfused human donor lung model. Since respective in vivo models using rodents, dogs and other animals are most severe, alternative approaches are likewise most desirable.

AnimAlt-ZEBET is the value-added data base of alternative methods produced by the German National Centre for Documentation and Evaluation of Alternatives to Animal Experiments (ZEBET) at the BfR (Federal Institute for Risk Assessment).

It is available free of charge and may be accessed at http://www.dimdi.de/.
