Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of G-protein-coupled receptors Featured

The biochemists Robert Lefkowitz and Brian Kobilka from the United States have received the this year's Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their work on the function of receptors in body cells.

Both cell researchers investigated certain docking-sites on the cell wall which receive signals. For example, the G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are responsible for that light is processed by the eye, or that the hormone adrenaline can act on the cells. Many drugs are based on the winners´ research findings.
