    The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the Institute of Health Research and Education, Faculty of Human Sciences, is looking for a

    PhD candidate (m/f/d)
    (Pay Scale 13 TV-L, 50 %)

    temporary for a period of three years.

    Your Duties:

    • Establishment and validation of an immunocompetent human three-dimensional full-thickness skin model in scientific collaboration with a research team consisting of partners from industry and academia.
    • Molecular differentiation of human immune cell lines or primary immune cells into Langerhans cell surrogates
    • In-depth characterization of Langerhans cell surrogates based on specific surface antigens by flow cytometry, confocal fluorescence microscopy and by molecular biological (e.g. quantitative real-time PCR, transcriptome analyses) and biochemical analyses (e.g. ELISA)
    • Development of cell culture conditions under which surrogates of Langerhans cells as central initiator cells of an immune reaction can be functionally integrated together with fibroblasts and keratinocytes in the tissue of the skin model in order to be able to map molecular mechanisms of skin sensitization in the 3D skin model and to inhibit this sensitization reaction in the presence of new active drug candidates.

  • Qualifications:

    Requirements:

    • A completed, outstanding scientific university degree (M.Sc. or diploma) in biology, molecular biomedicine, biochemistry or a related field.
    • Practical experience in cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology laboratory methods
    • Above-average motivation to contribute to an interdisciplinary team in a proactive, goal-oriented and collegial manner
    • Structured approach to work and efficient work attitude
    • Very good command of written and spoken English
    • Willingness to face qualitatively and quantitatively high work demands
