    Animals in Science Maternity Cover (approx. 8 months)

    Eurogroup for Animals has been the leading voice for animal welfare at European Union level since 1980 and currently represents 50 national and international animal welfare organisations. Our vision is to create a Europe where animals are valued as contributing to our well-being, prosperity and to the sustainability of our planet while foremost being considered as sentient beings.

    We are currently looking for a motivated person to cover a position while a colleague is on maternity leave. This person must demonstrable interest and experience in animals in science (testing, research and education) topics and related fields. Eurogroup for Animals is based in Brussels the person will be required to work out of our Brussels office. We are looking for someone that will be available for approximately 8 months starting from November 2016.

     

     

    Key responsibilities

    Take on the responsibilities and work of the Programme Leader for Animals in Science while on maternity leave. There is a proposed 4-6 weeks handover period. The interim programme leader would therefore be responsible for the general coordination of the research animals and science programme of Eurogroup for Animals leading activities and projects in order to drive better science and animal welfare. The interim programme leader reports to the Director.

    The work encompasses (i) managing the on-going work on the Directive 2010/63/EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes, (ii) implement the projects and work on alternatives to animal testing, (iii) follow and react on other topics on the use of animals in science.

    Additionally,

    • The interim programme officer will engage with Eurogroup for Animals’ members and relevant stakeholders in campaigns and maintain active working relationships.
    • Represent Eurogroup for Animals in political, scientific and public platforms and advisory groups
    • Monitor developments on research animals at International, EU and national level in the field of legislation, policies and campaigning and signal opportunities to be actively involved

     

     

  • Qualifications:

     

    Desired profile

    • Academic background/high level qualification and level of working. You have relevant experience in the use of animals for research, testing and education, with specific focus on alternative methods.
    • You have demonstrable knowledge of various EU legislations on the protection of animals used for scientific procedures and those regulations which require the use of animals for these purposes.
    • You have an understanding of political processes at national and EU level.
    • You are able to work and engage with the members of Eurogroup for Animals’ network and with relevant stakeholders.
    • You are pro-active, independent, a positive team player and service oriented
    • You work with a high degree of accountability, diligence and sense of responsibility
    • You are fluent in spoken and written English and preferably at least one additional EU language
