Animal-free Cosmetics: Call for Interest in Participation at the Long Range Science Strategy
Cosmetics Europe continues its efforts to actively engage in the development of Alternatives to Animal Testing (AAT) and is setting up a Research Consortium for the further development of AAT.
The production and marketing of cosmetics tested on animals is prohibited since March 2013. However, there are not enough animal-free test methods avialable in all endpoints.
Cosmetics Europe was founded in 1962 and represents the interests of more than 4000 companies. The association has supported the development of replacement methods to animal experiments for many years. The objective of the Long Range Science Strategy (LRSS) collaboration is to finance, steer and promote the successful development of AAT-based test methods and approaches for safety assessment and to facilitate their regulatory acceptance. The toxicological endpoints that will be covered by the Consortium include the areas of skin sensitisation, eye irritation, genotoxicity, systemic toxicity and skin absorption & metabolism. This consortium shall secure the continuation of the AAT work successfully conducted for many years by Cosmetics Europe.
Cosmetics Europe has built a self-funded Consortium, which is open to Cosmetics Europe members as well as non-members, e.g. suppliers and other parties. With this announcement we invite interested parties with a vested interest in research areas covered by the LRSS Research Programme to actively join the Consortium.
The Consortium also has as one of its aims to enter into strategic partnerships which would allow applying for public funding e.g. the EC Horizon 2020 programme.
The deadline for response to this call is end of March 2015.
