Batch testing of diphteria sera: Only without lab animals Featured

Recently, the European Pharmacopoeia Commission decided to discontinue the use of animals during batch testing for abnomal toxicity (ATT) of diphteria sera.

From 2019, no animal testing must be carried out for the detection of toxic substances in serum within for quality control (batch testing). Until now, mice and guinea pigs were used in these tests. However, this kind of quality test had not been required for batch release for twenty years, but is only test component during the drug development.
